Mountain View's minimum wage is $19.70 an hour for the 2026 calendar year, effective January 1, 2026. It applies to employers that are subject to the Mountain View Business License Tax or maintain a facility in the city, for each employee who performs at least two hours of work a week there. The city sets the next year's rate each fall, and its page, last updated October 23, 2025, doesn't show a 2027 figure.
In Mountain View, the wage test looks at the employer as well as the worker: the business license tax or a facility in the city, plus two hours a week of work there. This page covers the rate, that coverage test, the timing of the 2027 number, California sales tax on cleaning, and what it means for your books. Payroll registration and the employee test are on bookkeeping for California cleaning businesses.
The Mountain View minimum wage
The city's Economic Development page lists $19.70 an hour for 2026, effective January 1. It covers employers subject to the Mountain View Business License Tax or that maintain a facility in Mountain View, for each adult or minor employee who performs at least two hours of work per week in the city. The page says the rate is updated each fall for the next calendar year. It was last updated October 23, 2025, and no 2027 rate was found on official sources as of October 21, 2026, so check the city page before January. Whether your company and crews are covered is a question for the city or an employment attorney.

California sales tax and Mountain View jobs
Under Regulation 1501, California's general rule for service businesses, residential and commercial cleaning aren't taxable, and the cleaning company owes tax on the supplies it buys as their consumer. No California Department of Tax and Fee Administration source naming house cleaning or janitorial service was found, so this is the general rule applied to cleaning. The conditions are on my California sales tax page.

What Mountain View means for your books
The 2027 figure is the open item. Checking a city page twice for one number can feel silly, and I'm the last person to tease anyone for doing it. Wages go in at what each person is actually paid, and the 2027 Mountain View rate gets added as soon as the city posts it. If your company pays the Mountain View Business License Tax, it gets its own expense line, and supplies are booked at full cost, tax included. More on how I set up payroll for cleaning businesses.
I'm a bookkeeper, not a CPA or an Enrolled Agent. I keep wages, supplies, and any business license tax recorded; tax questions go to your CPA, and coverage questions go to the city or an employment attorney.
Rules checked against the sources above as of October 20, 2026. Rates and rules change; confirm current figures with the agency or your CPA.
