I’m based in Morrisville and have been in the Raleigh area since 2002. I work with cleaning businesses nationwide, and the Raleigh area is home base. For a Raleigh cleaning company the local picture is short: North Carolina doesn’t allow local minimum wages, so Raleigh follows the state’s $7.25, and cleaning real property is exempt from state sales tax with a few exceptions.
On minimum wage, Raleigh has nothing of its own to add, because North Carolina doesn’t let cities set one. On sales tax, the state exemption for cleaning real property does most of the work. Below is the wage question, the sales tax picture, where the rest of the state rules live, and how to reach me.
No local minimum wage in Raleigh
North Carolina law preempts local minimum wages, so Raleigh can’t set a rate above the state’s. That leaves Raleigh at the state rate, which is the federal $7.25 an hour. City minimum wages you may have read about elsewhere don’t reach crews working here.

Sales tax on Raleigh cleaning jobs
Cleaning real property is exempt from North Carolina sales tax under G.S. 105-164.13(61a)d. The exceptions are cleaning that is part of taxable accommodations and cleaning of pools and similar aquatic features, and the full list is on the North Carolina sales tax page. This page doesn’t cover local sales tax rates. Whether a particular job is taxable is a question for your CPA.

Payroll and the rest of the state rules
Withholding, unemployment insurance registration, and the employee or subcontractor test are state rules, so I keep them in one place on the North Carolina page.
Reaching me in Morrisville
Figure Eight Financial is at 104 Bending Oak Way, Morrisville, NC 27560, and the phone number is (919)-460-5383. I’d like to claim that living nearby makes me a sharper bookkeeper, but I’m the guy who gets genuinely excited when a bank reconciliation ties out to the penny, and that excitement travels just fine over the phone. Whether your crews work in Raleigh or three states away, the books get kept the same way.
Rules checked against the sources above as of October 20, 2026. Rates and rules change; confirm current figures with the agency or your CPA.
